Adult Education - Community Education

The Faribault Education Center Adult Education Program is in need of volunteers to assist our program in the evening on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 - 8 pm. If you can commit to one or two days per week, we would appreciate it very much.

We have the following needs for our program:

Bilingual speaking partners in Spanish or Somail
Assistance with GED Account Creation and technology assistance
One-on-one individual student attention

Am I eligible?

You must be 19 years of age AND a resident of Minnesota before you can take a GED test at Faribault Education Center. If you are under 19 you must obtain a waiver from the State of Minnesota.

Test takers must have a valid, current Government Issued picture ID to verify identity and eligibility for testing. This can be a passport, driver's licence or permit, ID card, or green card.

How do I sign up?

Students must register and schedule their test times on the GED website. Walk-Ins are not allowed as students must be registered on the GED website.

Students must pay for their test(s) at the time of scheduling, using a debit or credit card. Test(s) must be canceled 24 hours in advance to avoid losing funds.

What is the cost?

There are four individual subject area tests and the fee is $30.00 per test. Retests are also $30.00. Faribault Education Center provides free GED Practice Tests to our testers. There may be discounts and scholarships available to qualifying candidates. Please contact us at (507) 333-6472 for updated information on any promotions.

How can I prepare for the test?

Faribault Education Center provides free classes in Adult Basic Education to assist students with math, reading and English skills. GED preparation classes and online study is available through the Adult Literacy program.

The MN State Adult Diploma Program is a standards-based, competency diploma program.

Diploma competency areas include English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Digital Literacy and Career Development and Employability Skills.

The Northstar Digital Literacy Project defines the basic skills needed to perform tasks on computers and online. We will have instructors help you go through the online, self-guided modules.

Included are basic computer digital literacy standards and modules in six main areas:

Word Processing (Word).

College & Career Prep Academy

College and Career Prep Academy (CCPA) is a rigorous and comprehensive college and career preparatory program designed to ensure adult education students are academically prepared to transition to South Central College successfully to reach their academic and career goals. Career pathways this program supports currently include nursing assistants, nursing, social work, phlebotomy, business administration, medical assistant, and many more. CCPA is divided into three distinct phases and gradually releases students to full independence at South Central College by the end of the Integrated portion of the program.

On-Ramp (Eight Weeks) - In On-Ramp, students begin their exploration of careers along with better understanding the requirements necessary to become successful college students. Students are also introduced to digital literacy skills and are required to focus on reading skills to be prepared for college-level reading material.
Bridge (Eight Weeks) - Bridge focuses on pre-teaching the college coursework students will be exposed to in their first semester at South Central. Students are divided into career pathways, and materials are career-specific. Licensed teachers assist students with the entire college application process, as well.
Integrated (Semester) - During the Integrated portion of the program, students are full-time students at South Central College, and continue to receive additional academic and navigational support through CCPA with our licensed teachers. Students are required to meet with our teachers one time per week, at least.
